Perseverance Problems are created to challenge students to think harder and to use skills acquired during their fourth grade year to solve real world problems.
The way it works:
This is meant to be a fun, challenging way to work in extra practice that really requires students to think!
Remember: It is not meant to be overly time-consuming, stressful or cause anger/sadness. If your child gets frustrated, simply put it away and try again later. They have every skill they need to be successful, it’s all about not giving up!
The way it works:
- Each Friday, students will be given a new word problem. The word problem will be lengthy, with multiple steps that they must answer.
- They MAY NOT ask anyone for help. NO ONE. This is all about their own success and hard work. They may, however, as you if they are right or wrong and you may tell them, but do not explain any further.
- This is NOT for a grade. It is extra practice in which every child must participate.
- Should they get the problem correct: They will ring the bell, write their name on the poster in our room, check their name off on the roster to ensure they receive their perseverance point at the end of the 9 weeks for that problem and may take a small piece of candy.
- Should they not solve the problem by Friday: We will have a short period of time for students who have solved the problem to work with students who have not.
